Music Fun Time
Music Fun Time is an innovative and proven early childhood curriculum, which includes music classes for kids 18 months to 7 years old. Music Fun Time is not a simple play group where children sing, dance, jump & play instruments. This program is based on Johns-Hopkins Research that children 7 and under can learn to read music notation and symbols, play instruments, while fostering their ability to grasp math and science as they develop. For more information visit the Music Fun Time website.
The GMS Glee Club is a fun way to sing some of your favorite music in a group setting. Most recently we did the songs from the movie Frozen. Performance opportunities exist at the Northport Family Night in August, East Northport Fair, Fort Salonga Association Holiday Party, and at our recitals. We are also exploring other venues as well.
Make music and make friends! At GMS, kids can join other students or their friends with the same abilities and interests in a performance-based group. From classical to jazz to pop, GMS’s offerings in various genres helps students find their favorite style of musical expression.
- Classical Chamber Music
Home School Families
Music is one of the essential disciplines that every child needs in order to develop a well-rounded education. GMS has a number of Home School families that take music lessons at our school and we like to work with Home School families to develop a program that best meets their needs while working within their schedule.
As a music school committed to musical excellence, we place a strong emphasis on providing multiple performance opportunities throughout the year. Most of these performances are held at the school while others are held at the Steinway Gallery. We are exploring other performance venues as well. There are no admission fees for these recitals. In addition, our advanced students have an opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall.
GMS is a sponsoring member of NYSSMA and helps prepare students for NYSSMA through private instruction as well as offering free Master Classes and NYSSMA recitals. This will help students to prepare and perform their best, whether the student is participating in NYSSMA for the first time or has performed Level 6 pieces for a number of years.
Music Movie Night
It’s time for popcorn and a movie at Grace Music School! GMS periodically shows great orchestral works, concertos, and solo performances on our 70″ LED TV and surround sound system. This fun and educational program is designed to cultivate a life-long appreciation of the great works of Classical Music and inspire young and old alike. We believe it is important for everyone to be exposed to all types of music in order to develop an appreciation, respect and admiration for these great achievements of human creativity. There is NO CHARGE and we will provide the popcorn and candy!
Grace Music School will periodically host “Parent Orientation Sessions” for parents of new and existing students. Some topics covered include:
- How to get your child to practice
- “Music lessons…it’s not just about the music”
- Fun music applications to keep your child engaged and learning
- The importance of performing
- Q & A Session
In April 2017, GMS will be hosting the Grace Music School Piano Competition, featuring compositions from Billy Joel’s classical album Fantasies and Delusions. This will be opened to students that both attend and do not attend the school. This is a great way to work towards a goal and strive to become the best performer you can be. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will be offered to the winners.
Emerging Artist Series
Grace Music School periodically hosts concerts with local emerging artists and/or students from our school to give them a venue to perform their works and sharpen their skills as performers. There is no cost to use the schools recital space for a concert.
At GMS we like to offer various seminars at no cost to our students to enhance their overall music education and encourage and support their growth as musicians. Two such seminars include Music Technology, where students are exposed to the last music related apps and on-line technology; and having a guest lecturer come to the school to present music related topics of interest.
